Other characteristics of a psychopath other than having no conscience is the ability to understand emotions of other people. What I mean is although they may not care about how someone else feels (lack of empathy) they know full well how they are feeling eg fear, happy etc....they fully understand that. As a result a psychopath can be very manipulative and even have the ability to manipulate psychologists/psychiatrists etc.... there are lot more psychopathic personalities living with us that we don't know about. They don't all kill - thats a myth....so that may answer your question I think. A person can have psychopathic characteristics but manipulate you (not necessarily on purpose) into thinking that they aren't psychopathic etc....

Most of the guys who have this disorder are pretty bad dudes, and the diagnoses alone is enough to scare most doctors off. (a lot of clinicians won't even TRY treating these people). "
